Handmade / Wallpaper*

DescriptionNow an annual issue, Handmade focuses on bespoke and hand-crafted objects. We also invite users to get involved by creating their own cover for the issue using a Flash tool developed by Kin Design. The covers are digitally printed and attached to the issue before being sent to the user. They also appear in a gallery on wallpaper.com. In 2011, we added the ability to animate the covers as well.

Graduate Directory / Wallpaper*

DescriptionAnnual feature showcasing up and coming graduate talent in a variety of fields. Initially this was done in Flash, but last year I built it in HTML/CSS/jQuery with an embedded gallery at the top of the page. This format allowed users to sort entries by subject, school and name. It also resulted in a massive increase in pageviews.

Interactive Kiosk / Universe of Sound

DescriptionUI/UX design for Philharmonia Orchestra, who have developed three-screen Kinect-based pods in which users are invited to learn how to conduct Holst's The Planets. Conducting patterns based on the shifting time signatures of each piece are displayed and users trace them in mid-air in time with the music. Movements of the left hand determine volume and pan. Performance and accuracy are scored.

In addition to the straightforward conducting mode, there is an additional interactive mode that allows users to select instrumentation, determine melody lines and control a theremin.

The exhibition will tour the UK and Europe spring/summer 2013.
